Wanna know what I think? Too bad, I wrote it anyway.

Here are some thoughts I had on a few of the things I read last year.  These either didn’t make the podcast, I didn’t write anywhere else, and were short enough to tweet (almost), but I didn’t.

Should I do a rating system? Probably not. Let’s try dinosaurs.

The Goblin Emperor

Rating: Spinosaurus

This one took me a minute to like, but now I miss little Maia. I know there’s a sequel (of a sort) in the works that probably features the Witness for the Dead, but it strikes me (a pretentious phrase) there’s a direct sequel when Maia’s grandfather dies, and an older, wiser, Maia is named emperor of the goblin lands.

Lovecraft Country

Rating: Giganotosaurus

I read it; much like the HBO show, there are parts I love, and it starts strong, but it’s just kind of there at the finish staring at me and shrugging.

Jade City

Rating: Beipiaosaurus

I heard it pitched somewhere as “The Godfather” meets “Hidden Dragon” or something like that, and I think that’s probably a disservice to everyone involved, and I think there’s a crouched tiger missing. I liked it. I loved it. I wanted some more of it; I picked up the next two.

The Visions

Rating: Longisquama

Into some comic now. I read this because I knew I would watch “WandaVision” with the kids, and I’d heard about how good this thing was. I’d actually read the first issues years ago when it came out, waited for the trade, and then waited some more while I had Marvel Unlimited. Whatever my delay, it’s great. Read it.

The Immortal Hulk

Rating: Carnotaurus

A body horror comic about the Hulk? Sort of, if you glance real quick and then turn away and pay no attention to sounds comics to your right. I liked what I read so far. It’s been a while since I could give a toot or a scoot about a Hulk comic where he wasn’t fighting bug gladiators or bearded-future-Hulks.

Lone Wolf and Cub

Rating: Brontosaurus

I’ve slowly been re-reading these since that Disney+ show with the Muppet baby came out. It’s what I read when I don’t feel like reading anything else (sometimes Calvin and Hobbes). It holds up from what I remember at 18, which is surprising. Almost nothing else does.
